On Monday the 12th we made our way to a Angles vs Dodgers spring training game. We had a great time. The weather was perfect. I got a bit pink from the sun. There was a little boy next to coach who was here with his parents from southern California. He went home with a pop fly ball. I'm sure it was show and tell when he got back to school the next day. It's been years since I've been to a game. We really need to do this more often. I think baseball is a great sport to get to talk to the people you are with.
On Tuesday we went to a resturant called the Barrio Cafe. It's on Thomas and 16th street in Phoenix. The food was out of this world good! I had the fish tacos with a salad. The salad was spring greens with diced tomatoes, cranberries and cheese. Sooooooo good. Coach had cheese enchilads with onxy mole sauce. We will be back and I've told everyone I know that they have to go there to eat. When we were done I took a few pictures of the art work on the block walls of the homes around the cafe. There was a couple from California who stopped to take pictures also.
We than made our way to downtown Phoenix. We went to see the Van Goah Alive at the Arizona Science Center. It takes about a half hour to see the whole thing. We stayed an hour. There is script on one screen, and so many others that show his artwork. You almost have to read first than sit back and watch the artwork to see everything. I highly recommend it. Coach now wants to read his bio and watch the documentary about him. Yes he is more than a football coach. We walked around Hertiage Square. I've lived in the Phoenix area for over ten years and that was the first time I've been there. This was a week of firsts for us.
On Wednesday the last day of our staycation, coach had another surprise for me. A couple of weeks ago we were watching CBS Sunday Morning, and on that show they had a gentalman who owns a typewritter repair shop. I had told coach that I was thinking about getting an old typewritter. It was a very interesting half hour. I never knew there was so much to learn about them. If you ever need to talk to someone about your typewritter or want to buy one. Go see Bill Wahl(30 South Macdonald Mesa,AZ 85210), he will give you all the information you need and help you pick the right one for you. Coach said we'll be back. We like to go to small shop owners when ever possible. I have my eye on a couple he had in his store. My birthday is just a few months away. Who knows?
We also shopped a antique store where I picked up some milk glass. I think I'm going to start collecting milk glass. I saw an article in the new Matthew Mead magazine. I've always loved the look of it and it goes good with my white dishes. It'll just be fun to use the pieces for different things other than food or drink. I haven't taken any picture's yet. But I will and post them.
As we were getting ready to head back to the truck. I spotted a store called Mystic Paper (123 W Main St. Mesa, Az). They had lots of unique papers and trims, ephemera. I didn't stay to long to wonder around. Coach was sweet enough to sit on a bench while I ran in to see what they had. I already told my daughter we were going back together on our next Wednesday off. The owner was very sweet. We talked about our blogs and she was kind enough to give me some helpful hints and websites to go to. If you want to see her shop blog go to www.mysticpaper.com/www.mysticpaper.blogspot.com.
All in all we had a wonderful five days of doing what we wanted or nothing at all. I can't wait till our next vacation. But this time it'll be in White Bear, MN. I have to start finding the shops I want to visit. If any of you know of some good places to go to please let me know. And of course we can't for get. Coach and I have been married nine years now, this past Thursday. Like other couple we had our ups and downs. But I can say we are very happy to be together. I can't wait to see what the next nine years will be like. He's the best! It's Sunday night and time to get ready for Monday morning! Can't wait to be able to get back here. Hope you all have a great week.
